Today is another day in the world of cricket where the mighty world champions Aussies have beaten India again in the second ODI match at Brisbane Cricket Ground (Woolloongabba). The star of first ODI Rohit Sharma batted superbly again for his 124 runs. That was his second consecutive century against Australia in this series. India batting first, made 308/8 in the 50 overs with a run rate of 6.1. Australia chased the total in 49 overs by scoring 309/3 with a run rate of 6.30. Lets take a review of this splendid game of cricket played at Gabba today.

Despite Australia beats India today by 7 wickets, Rohit Sharma was declared “Man of the Match” for his brilliant century. He made 124 runs on 127 balls before he was run out by James Faulkner. Anything over 300 is a huge total on Aussie pitches. India did well as Steve Smith said that he was fearing anything around 350 from Indians. But the bowlers did good job.

The match started at 03:20 AM GMT when Indian Captain Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat. Today’s umpires were Richard Kettleborough and Mick Martell. The match referee was Jeff Crowe. Rohit opened the innings with Shikhar Dhawan who got out at 6 runs early.


Virat Kohli once again supported Sharma for a brilliant knock of 59. He got run out and Ajinkya Rahane came afterwards. He played brilliantly for his 89 runs of 80 balls as well with Sharma. No other batsman reached double figures after Dhoni got caught for 11. Rohit Sharma completed his second consecutive century when he got run out in 43rd over.

The score was 255 at that time. He played his excellent part for setting a big total for India. The score was 276 when Dhoni got out, caught by Maxwell. Still the tail enders managed to drag the score above 300 and India played 50 overs for 308. James Faulkner took the highest 2 wickets. Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh started brilliantly for Australia.

They were able to make 40 runs in first ten overs. Marsh was dropped by Sharma in the 13th over which proved to be disastrous for India later on. Marsh was dropped again in the 14th over by Rahane. Australia were 100/0 in 20.5 overs. Both the openers did great job to stand firmly on the wicket and scored runs.

Finch and Marsh completed their 10th and 11th ODI fifties consecutively. Australia lost their first wicket in 27th over when Finch got out. He made 71 runs.

Captain Steve Smith came to join Marsh who played yet another spectacular innings of 46 for 47 balls. He was dismissed by Umesh. George Bailey and Glenn Maxwell stood their ground after the departures of Smith and Marsh. Marsh made a brilliant 71 as well. Bailey made 76 in 58 balls while Maxwell supported him with 26 in 25 balls. Maxwell and Bailey hugged each other as they celebrated their second win. Australia lost only the two openers and the Captain Smith. They achieved the target in 49 overs for 309 runs.Sharma, Yadav and Jadeja took 1 wickets each.

India is in 0-2 deficit in the series. Their dream of leveling the series in the second ODI was crushed by the smashing batting of Australians. Dhoni admitted that scoring 300 was just not enough to beat Australia. Man of the Match Sharma also expressed his disappointment on the match result but he said he loved playing at the Gabba. Indians will definitely learn a few things from today’s loss. The dropping of Marsh was terrible. Also Finch was struggling in the start when India was not able to get him out cheaply.
