Pakistan and Sri Lanka came face to face in their first match of two match ODI series on 4th March 2016, in Asia Cup T20 2016. Day and night match was started at 6 PM local Bangladesh Time. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first.
With its fearsome batting line up, Sri Lanka was in trouble early on with its 6 wickets fell under 100 runs with stunning bowling performances from Muhammad Amir and Anwar Ali. It was a spectucular bowling performance from Muhammad Irfan and Muhammad Amir, who kept New Zealand batsmen in trouble early by keeping them to as low as 99 runs in 22.1 overs with 6 wickets fallen.
However, New Zealand showed a strong come back with Nicholls and Santner standing on the crease and providing more than 100 runs partnership for 7th wicket. However, Anwar Ali with his dangerous bolwing managed to get Nicholls bowled at 82 runs. Nicholls scored steady 82 runs off 111 balls with with 7 fours and strike rate of 73.87.
Muhammad Amir and Muhammad Irfan started off great by keeping New Zealand under control. Muhammad Irfan took 2 wickets for 43 runs in his 10 overs at an economy of 4.3 Muhammad Amir could managed to bowl 8.1 overs before his injury and gave away just 28 runs with 3.7 economy and managed to get 3 wickets.
