India vs Pakistan Match starts at 7 pm Pakistan Standard Time, Saturday, 19th March.
India vs Pakistan, the biggest encounter in the cricketing world is hitting your screens on March 19 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Amitabh Bachan and Shafqat Amanat Ali will start the proceedings by singing the national anthems of their respective countries. Adrenaline will rush, prayers will be made, tears will flow and the two teams will battle it out to add to the long lasting rivalry.
“Pakistan has never beaten India in a world cup match” is a stat that every single person in the two countries knows by heart.
Since 2007, the two teams have played three matches in the World T20 competitions and Pakistan has ended up on the losing side in all the games.
Shedding aside the emotions, it has always been Pakistani bowling vs Indian batting. In the overall T20 record, India has won six off the seven matches played between the two countries.
Interestingly, the only T20 Pakistan won was when the bowling restricted India for 133 in Bangalore, 2012. Shoaib Malik was the man of the match in this game.
Pakistan thrashed Bangladesh in their first match on Wednesday by beating them by 55 runs. Pakistan’s top order sprung in to form and it was delightful to see Ahmed Shehzad rotating the strike and piercing the gaps at will.
The win against Bangladesh was also a loud return to form for Shahid Afridi. His big hitting down the order is going to play a crucial part, in the match against India.
If Afridi unleashes his star man pose in this match, it will be game over for India in a jiffy.
India on the other hand are under pressure after a rare batting failure in the opening game of the World T20.
It seemed as if India fell in their own trap at Nagpur, after curating a spin friendly strip. However, the Eden Garden’s pitch will surely have less demons than Nagpur.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, will direly want his batsmen to put big runs on the board to put Pakistan under pressure.
Pakistan Fall of Wickets
Moreover, India’s opening pair hasn’t done well in the recent past, especially Rohit Sharma is struggling to get going. It is interesting to note that Sharma averages 23.40 at home, which is dismal considering his standards. Except for his 106 against South Africa in 2015, Sharma has never made a fifty plus score in a T20 match in India.
However, Virat Kohli’s sublime form against Pakistan will be pivotal in the big game. His mastery at reading match situations has been the reason for his great success over the years.
On the other hand, Umer Akmal and Sarfaraz Ahmed are going to be key for Pakistan. Pakistani openers tend to lose the plot in a pressure game against India. In all the three WT20 matches played against India, Pakistan lost their first wicket before scoring 20 runs. So there is a need for Sarfaraz and Akmal to make up for the lost momentum in times of need.
The match will be played under lights so dew may play a deciding role in this match. Afghanistan wasn’t able to defend 154 on the Kolkata pitch against a rusty batting line of Sri Lanka. Therefore, the team batting first will have to put 170+ score on the board to stand a chance of winning the game.
Say what you may, Pakistan vs India encounters can never be analysed based on figures and stats. Saturday’s game will be won by the team who handles the pressure well.
Till 7 pm Saturday, when billions tune up for the match; May the best team win.
