India has won the toss and elected to bat first as he did in previous two matches. India is 0-2 down in 5 match series against Australia. India lost his first match by 3 wickets and second by 7 wickets. India scored more than 300 runs in both of the matches but brilliant combined batting performances from Australia batsmen did not let India come into Series at any occasion.
India had registered 6 for 295 in its first innings thanks to a classy and emotional century from star batsman Virat Kohli, while Shikhar Dhawan (68) and Ajinkya Rahane (50) also played top knocks.
Australia’s response looked shaky at times, with a number of batsmen making starts but falling at crucial intervals.
Shaun Marsh made 62 to give Australia a solid start, but it was left to Maxwell to play his usual extravagant shots – including a ridiculous cut shot that sailed over the cover rope for six – to accelerate Australia’s chase.
Needing 11 to win off two overs, Maxwell had to pick his shots to get a century beyond the required total, clubbing a humongous six off Umesh Yadav, before clubbing a four to put him on 96 runs with one run to get.
But he could not get the requisite boundary to notch an unbelievable century, skying a catch to cover instead.
It was left to James Faulkner (21 not out) to tap home the winning run the very next delivery.
The win sees Australia take an unassailable 3-0 lead after three games in the five-match series, with the fourth match to be played in Canberra on January 20.
Steve Smith and George Bailey were the heroes of first match. Both scored centuries. Steve smith made brilliant 149 runs of just 135 balls with 11 fours and 2 classical sixes. George Bailey showed his brilliant come back in team with 112 runs off just 120 balls with 7 fours and 2 grand sixes. It went the Rohit Sharma’s heroic 171 off just 163 balls to vein.
