Success in the first game in WACA did not stop Aussie desire to beat India again. They pulled out another great victory by beating India in the 2nd ODI of the current 2016 series as well. There were a lot of lessons learned in this match. Some lovely innings came to surprise everyone. Australia achieved the 308 target of India in the 49th over at Gabba Cricket Stadium in Brisbane.
The great innings to mention here is of George Bailey’s. He made 76 runs and remained not out. That was a true winning factor in this match. Despite the fact the Rohit Sharma made a second consecutive 100 in this series, Bailey proved that anything Sharma could do, he could do better. This summer is turning out to be fantastic for Bailey and Australia.
If we look at the George Bailey’s ODI record against India, it would astonish anyone who love the game of cricket. Bailey played a total of 9 innings against India so far, he made 671 runs and scored 2 hundreds. He batted against India with average of 95.85, which is highest among Australian batsmen. In fact, Bailey has the best average against India among all Aussie players. He also made his debut against the Indians a few years back.
India did some loose catching in the second ODI at Gabba. Marsh and Finch batted well. But it was really Bailey who leaded the run chase and gave India no hopes of getting close to victory. He batted with firm base. Bailey’s innings gave Australia the real momentum they needed to keep the run rate at a good level. In the interview after the match, Bailey also said that the whole Aussie team was really happy, he also appreciated the bowlers who did great job to restrict India under 350. That was a super effort.
Bailey showed his incredible skills again in the second ODI. He has that unique ability like Javed Miandad. When the pressure builds, he remains calm and calculates the situation very well. He takes quick singles and hit intelligent boundaries. He was throwing the ball out of rope even in the pressure time. The run rate of Australia was not good enough when he arrived for batting. They still needed to score at a run rate of 7 or above. Bailey had a target set in his mind, he took the game away with Steve Smith’s support by scoring 76 runs.
Bailey also said in his interview that he has complete faith in his Captain Steve Smith. He said that the ability of Smith to score runs is incredible force that drives him to score in the similar free way. The next ODI is coming at Melbourne Cricket Ground MCG. Its the biggest cricket ground in the world today, and the contest is expected to be breath taking between the two tough teams. Indians are going to have a fight of their lives to save the series. Who knows Bailey could make history again this day again.
