Highlights – Match 12 – Lahore Qalandars Vs Karachi Kings 12 February 2016

Deciding to filed for Lahore Qalandars may not be a good idea. Chasing a target 178 runs was never easy. Shoaib Malik and his team started solidly from the start and kept Lahore Qalandars under pressure through the match.

Karachi Kings posted 178 runs on the board with the help of some really good hitting performance from England based player Ravi Bopara. Bopara scored 71 not out runs of 43 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes. It was the third time Bopara helped Karachi into a good position. Last two times, he was not lucky enough to take Karachi into a victory but this time, it helped.

Opener Shoaib Malik and Nauman Anwar provided sound start to Karachi by putting up a 50+ runs partnership. While attempting to cut through the right side, Malik sent a catch to Keeper Cameron Delport, who easily held it to sent him back for 27 runs off 25 balls. Nauman showed his skills once again but could not cross 35 runs. In an attempt to make a big hit, he tossed up the catch that landed up into the safe pair of hands of Umer Akmal.

Imad Wasim and Mashfiqur Rehman, both added 11 and 10 runs respectively to help Bopara at the end of the innings and to take Karachi into a handsome total of 178 runs.

It was yet another bad day for Lahories. Despite a good start from Chris Gayle and Cameron Delport, who put up 80 runs partnership on first wicket, Lahories could not convert it into their win. Gayle scored 37 runs off 28 balls while Cameron was in a good touch to put up 55 runs off just 39 balls with a strike rate of 141.02.

Bopara was not looking to stop even in bowling. With his long ODI experience from England, Bopara put Lahories into trouble and grabbed a man of the match winning performance of 6-16, so far the best by any player in Pakistan Super League.

Now, Lahore has lost 4 of the 5 matches and is on the bottom of the points table. Only hopes are to win all remaining 3 matches to make a place in the play offs. Peshawar Zalmi is on the top of the table with 4 wins out of 5 matches followed by Quetta Gladiators with same number but a little less average. It looks like Karachi and Islamabad United may have tough time from Lahore if they manage to win their remaining matches but it will not be easy anymore.
