Watson’s captain knock, Sharjeel’s angry knock helps ISLU beat Qalandars
Blazing innings by Sharjeel Khan and Shane Watson helped Islamabad United beat Lahore Qalandars by 8 wickets in the 9th match of first ever Pakistan Super League in 2016. On Wednesday night, 10th February 2016, Islamabad made their consecutive victory by chasing 166 runs in the loss of just 2 wickets.
While chasing 166 runs in 20 overs, Shane Watson was leading Islamabad United side as Misbah Ul Haq was not in the team due to an injury. Watson played a captain’s knock and smashed 79 runs off just 47 balls. Watson was going extremely well before Ehsan Adil managed to get him out on the leg side. By the time, Watson got out, Islamabad needed only 14 more runs to win.
Sharjeel Khan was also playing side by side with Watson. Both managed to make the biggest partnership in Pakistan Super League so far by putting up 153 runs. Sharjeel remained unbeaten at with his maiden fifty and 79 runs off just 43 balls.
Islamabad United is now at the number three place on points table with their 2 wins in 4 matches. While Lahore Qalandars have gone to the bottom of the points table with 3 losses and only 1 win in their 4 matches.
Drop catches and some poor fielding were seen from the part of Lahore Qalandars that put them into losing side. Cameron Delport dropped Shane Watson when he was only on 11 runs. Kevin Cooper did not find it suitable for him as he was the bowler this time. Watson did not let this chance go away and brought Lahore Qalandars into massive pressure by putting 4 fours and 7 sixes in his 79 runs.
Sharjeel Khan, who has not been picked up for World T20 squad, was looking in good touch. He laid the foundation for a quick fire score chase when he smashed 20 runs to Ehsan Adil in the 4th over the second innings. After that over, Sharjeel was not looking to hold his bat. He kept on hitting until he took Islamabad to a second consecutive victory.
Muhammad Rizwan was the hero for Lahore Qalandars with his 27 ball 50 runs. Rizwan, who has also been dropped from World T20 squad came to bat in the 13th over of the match when Qalandars were at 89 for 4. Rizwan hit 3 sixes and 2 fours to reach his fastest fifty in Twenty 20 cricket.
