Pakistan won the first T20 match with a style against New Zealand on 15th January. The 3 match series was open and the New Zealand made a tremendous comeback in the second match. The grand thing about the match of 17th January was the incredible record making partnership between Martin Guptil and Williamson for 171 runs. The two openers batted beautifully and won the match for Newzealand in a historical way. Pakistan’s total of 168/7 was lollipop for them in the end when Newzealand got victorious without losing a wicket.
Guptil is an explosive opener for Newzealand. He made 87 runs. His partner Williamson made his best score of 72. The two great openers batted at an amazing strike rate of 150. Muhammad Amir and Wahab Riaz both got smashed brutally. Imad Wasim also got smashed for three boundaries early in his over. Newzealand got off to a flying start. Umar Gull was also a victim of Guptil who hit him for super sixer in his early overs. Williamson also hit consecutive boundaries on the bowling of Amir and Shahid Afridi in the middle of the over.Williamson did not hit a six like Guptil, but he was smashing boundaries as well against the Pakistani spinners and fast bowlers.
Pakistanis looked very helpless in front of Guptil and Williamson. The tenth over was passed and there was no hope of a wicket for Pakistan.Guptil smashed Pakistani bowlers for 4 sixes and 9 boundaries. The Hamilton ground was not so huge, the boundaries were shorter and the home guys did a fantastic job. Amir was not proved a good bowler in the second match. He gave away 34 runs for 3 overs. Earlier in Pakistani innings, Umar Akmal smashed some great sixes above the ropes. But it was nothing historical like Guptil and Williamson did later in the run chase.
Pakistan should learn from this innings a lesson if they want to win the series against Newzealand before the world cup. They lost consecutive wickets regularly. Umar Akmal was not supported well towards the end.Pakisani bowlers also bowled a bit short which gave the home guys a chance to become Heros on the 17th January. 171 runs for the first wicket partnership were never made before by any team in the T20. That is alarming for Pakistan and a sign that they should do a much better job in the next match if they do not want to suffer the same defeat and lose the series.
