In the earlier innings, the Kumar Sangakkara and Ahmed Shahzad looked like they were going to grab the man of the match award in the first ever final of PSL 2016. The match was a thrilling finish by the captain Misbah Ul Haq when he hit the winning shots to get the total of 174 to win the cup for his team.
Pieterson was not able to provide in this match what was needed by him. Despite the fact that both the lovely openers of Quetta were able to hit a half century before they got out. Overall, the fielding side for Islamabad United also looked a bit better.
Smith was the only batsman in the match to hit a score of 73. He batted with his bat striking all over the ground. No bowler was able to get him out under fifty runs. He was lucky also that he did not get caught, therefore he went on to make a superb half century.
This half century was better than the ones made by Ahmed Shahzad and Kumar Sangakkara. The reason for that was this fifty of Smith came under the conditions when he was fully under pressure. Wasim Akram was seriously watching every ball of the match. His only advice and prayers for his strikers were to stay on the wicket.
That’s exactly what the Smith did, he stayed on the wicket and never got out cheaply before giving the enough runs to his team. The first few overs were the backbone of the Islamabad innings. If they had gotten a disastrous start, then it would have been ultimate disaster for them. Smith did not let this happen.
